Welcoming Fall

Dear friends,

Happy FALL!  Finally, it's cooler - yay!

I want to let you know that I'm still here, and have not abandoned my blog. Lots of new posts in the works, including a preview of our new shipment that's en route, so please stay tuned.

After returning from Maine, Tom and I went on a buying trip to Scandinavia. We have a fabulous collection of painted sideboards, pairs of chests, vitrine / glass fronted cabinets, tables, etc. The shipment should arrive in mid-October. If you are looking for something special, do let me know.

This past weekend the weather was absolutely delightful. I was inspired to start decorating our home for the season. And, inspired to entertain. We invited a group of neighbors over for drinks. Also, we had friends over for lunch in the courtyard.

Enjoy these photos.
Still waiting for the trees to turn color here in DC. I decided our courtyard needed a splash of autumnal color. Don't the mums look especially vibrant in the antique French green ceramic pots from Provence? For the centerpiece, I mixed dried Annabelle Hydrangeas with (very realistic looking) faux branches of Pin Oaks. Yes, I went faux! The galvanized bucket is vintage from Europe - I have a few more available at the shop.
Since the weather was a little brisk, I provided cozy yet lightweight wool throws, in different plaid patterns, for everyone. Learned this from our travels throughout Scandinavia where many cafes and restaurants will often drape, during the cooler months, their outdoor seating with inviting blankets for patrons.
Of course I had to pick up a few Baby Boo pumpkins. They brighten a lantern on the foyer windowsill. For more of my fall decor ideas, click here. Also, check out my INSTAGRAM.

Cheers,
Loi

  1. Cheers to you, Loi, and Happy Autumn! I keep a basket of throws on our sun porch just for such occasions. Even in TX the evenings can get a chill certain times of the year. Your autumn touches are spot on. You alfresco dining spot is so inviting!

  5. Hi,
Love this post. I never knew about cafes offering throws for their guests. Wonderful idea!
And I loved seeing the white pumpkins!
MC and I are about settled into our 100 year old loft in the River/Warehouse District of Danville Va. A far cry from Ft Myers Florida. It's a ball working all our things with brick walls, 100 year old wood flooring and quirky interior features. Love living with history. Our first experience. We have lived in new construction for ever. (that's what I did, sold new construction!)
Glad you both are doing great.

  7. Oh lucky guys going shopping in Scandinavia - know you will be seeing amazingly beautiful pieces arriving in your shipment - how exciting Loi.
Yes, I recall the European cafe throws, cushions and heaters in the winter months - I love to be able to have a coffee, hot chocolate, even an aperitif, outdoors, no matter the weather - as long as it's not pouring rain or blowing a gale!
Your house and its pretty courtyard looks fabulous with your autumn decor - and I love the curved stone wall and iron gate.
That's a great idea putting the Baby Boos in the large lantern - I may steal/borrow that idea from you dear friend!
We are just finishing up what turned into an almost total rehab of the exterior of the cottage - all new siding, wood repairs, roof repairs and complete painting etc. and I'm exhausted. . . . . . .but it will look good once some new landscaping is done!

Hugs from Bob and me. Happy, happy autumn days - wish they'd hurry up here, still soooo hot and no rain whatsoever for a couple of weeks - which was good for the construction/painting guys!

  14. Loi, the patio looks beautiful! I love the splash of color with the faux branched and the orange pumpkins. The plaid throws are a favorite, I too love that about the cafes in Europe. IT does get a little chilly sitting outside sipping your cocoa watching the people walk by.

  17. I love your plaid throws. We saw them on chairs in the old town section of Copenhagen this past July. Sure can't use them around the metro DC area in the summertime! That's a beautiful patio, Loi.
